What is diabetic retinopathy?

Let us quickly review what happens in Diabetic Retinopathy. Diabetes causes problems with the retina’s tiny blood vessels. What is the effect of the green laser eye surgery on the retina?

The laser is absorbed by the pigment (melanin) in the retina, resulting in a process known as photocoagulation. This results in the death of cells in the outer retina while improving oxygen flow to the inner retina. As a result of this, VEGF production is lowered.
